Here's a simple recipe for Jamaican "mannish water" soup: Ingredients:

  • 1 goat head, cleaned and chopped into pieces

  • 1 onion, chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 large carrot, chopped

  • 2 green bananas, sliced (with peel on) (Optional)

  • 1 ½ lbs. Yam

  • 1 ½ lbs. Pumpkin

  • 1 ½ lbs Coco

  • 1 small Cho Cho, chopped

  • 2 stalks of scallion, chopped

  • 1 scotch bonnet pepper

  • 4 cups water

  • 2 sprigs of thyme

  • 1 teaspoon Pimento Seeds

  • 2 tbsp. cooking oil

  • 3 small Irish Potatoes, chopped

  • 1 pack of Spicy Hill Farm Ram Goat (Mannish Water) Soup Mix

  • 1 cup flour to make dumplings

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Heat the oil in a large pot over medium heat.

  2. Add the onion, garlic, scallion, and thyme and cook until the onions are soft, about 5 minutes.

  3. Add the goat head, water, pimento seeds, pumpkin, scotch bonnet pepper, salt, and pepper to the pot.

  4. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 2 hours, or until the meat is tender.

  5. Add sliced green bananas, carrots, yams, and Irish potatoes; cho cho; Coco; spinner dumplings; and Ram Goat (Mannish Water) Soup Mix and cook for about 30 minutes (1/2 hour).

  6. Remove the scotch bonnet pepper and thyme sprigs.

  7. Serve hot.

Note: Mannish water is a traditional Jamaican soup that is typically made with goat head, but other meats such as sheep or cow tripe can also be used.
