Jamaican-born and Saint Kitts and Nevis-based artist, Byron Messia, has achieved a remarkable feat in his music career as his remix of the breakthrough hit "Talibans" – now updated to "Talibans II" with Nigerian superstar Burna Boy – makes its debut on the coveted Billboard Hot 100 chart at No. 99. The remix, released through various record labels including Ztekk, Simple Stupid Records, Geffen Records, On A Spaceship, Bad Habit, and Atlantic Recording Corporation, has already been making waves and gaining traction since its release on July 21.
According to data from Luminate, "Talibans II" has seen a surge in popularity, opening with 7.6 million radio airplay audience impressions, an increase of 26% from the previous week. The track also garnered 4.2 million U.S. streams, marking an impressive surge of 136% in the same tracking week. Furthermore, the song saw a remarkable boost in downloads sold, with an increase of 187%.
Notably, this is not the first appearance of "Talibans" on Billboard's charts. Messia's original solo version, released on January 20, has been steadily climbing the charts since early July. In the latest chart update, the original version rises to No. 15 on Rap Airplay, No. 26 on Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay, No. 31 on Rhythmic Airplay, and No. 32 on R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay. It is worth mentioning that all versions of the song are combined for a singular listing on Billboard's charts.
For the talented newcomer, Byron Messia, "Talibans" marks his first-ever appearance on Billboard's charts, representing a significant milestone in his career. His collection, "No Love," which includes the hit track, previously debuted at No. 8 on the Reggae Albums chart in June. Notably, "No Love" has surged even further, reaching a new peak at No. 3 on the latest list. Before "No Love," Messia had already released an impressive array of six albums, showcasing his diverse musical talents over the years.
On the other hand, Burna Boy, the Nigerian music sensation, continues to add to his impressive Billboard chart history with his feature on "Talibans II." This collaboration marks Burna Boy's third appearance on the Hot 100, following his featured turn on Justin Bieber's "Loved By You" in 2021 (peaking at No. 87) and his own track "Last Last" in October (peaking at No. 44). Additionally, Burna Boy boasts an impressive track record on the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart, with 30 entries since the chart's inception last year, second only to Asake who holds 32 entries. Notably, "Last Last" enjoyed an impressive eight-week reign at No. 1 on that chart, the second-longest reign following Rema and Selena Gomez's "Calm Down" with 48 weeks.
The remix of “Talibans” is available now on all major streaming platforms.
