Fresh from a scintillating performance at the recently concluded Reggae Sumfest at Catherine Hall, Montego Bay, red hot dancehall star Aidonia is set to launch his new clothing line within the coming weeks. The deejay will be rolling out his apparel line for the summer. The collection will cater to both males and females with a line specifically for children to follow. "Ever since my emergence in the music industry, I've always wanted to dabble into other aspects of business. Music and fashion go together and I think starting a clothing line will be a good marriage for my music and brand. It's also something the fans have been demanding for years," Aidonia stated in a release to the media. He continued, "Every time we go on tours people always asking for CDs and other paraphernalia, so I believe starting a clothing line is a step in the right direction in building the JOP brand." The line dubbed '1V' or '1Voice', coined from a popular slogan used during his performances will be prominently displayed on the T-shirts. The line will include tank tops, pullovers, hats and caps, all of which will be made available via selected stores across the island. An official website will also be launched which will allow international fans to purchase their favourite products online. Currently promoting singles such as 80s Dancehall Style, Don Deh Yah and the newly released Coco Powda, Aidonia says he's working assiduously with his team to fine tune the business aspect of his new venture to allow for a smooth unveiling when the official launch date arrives. Meanwhile, Aidonia along with Deablo and other members of the camp are expected to depart the island this week for a performance in The Bahamas.
- Interview With Female Entertainer SPICE
Su Dushi" [DUSHI (doo-she) means sweetheart in our local DUTCH CARIBBEAN tongue, papiamento/u] invaded my good friend, Dane Bogles' desk waiting to SPICE up my life by the super-star guest visitor in the house. It was a pretty calm day at VP records, THE intentional Caribbean powerhouse, home to acts such as KONSHENS, GYPTIAN, BUNJI AND FAY ANN LYONS, SEAN PAUL, BERES HAMMOND, SANCHEZ, SHAGGY and many more Caribbean genres, international stars. In 2008 to 2009, anyone who knew me, hung out at my house (which served as the pre-game before "DI LIME" spot) or even to turn their radios on at all, couldn’t escape the sounds of 'THE TEACHER' & 'AH SPICE' with their mega Mash up hit "Romping Shop". Many times we would hear the MISS INDEPENDENT Riddim, also done by R&B singer and mega-super star producer, NEYO and hold our breath to hear the seductive lyrics of the reggae SUPER can! Vybz Kartel was (at the time), proved to be THE most talented, yet controversial and long-standing, internationally renowned "permanent" fixture on the CARIBBEAN scene with years of MASH UP hits such as: "HELLO MOTTO", "SO MEH SAY", "TIGHT GYAL DEM" "LOVE" and "VIRGINITY" were only a few of the massive list of hit songs that the dancehall genius would deliver to the scene. The reigning, lyrical innovator and prince of dancehall, KARTELaka Adidja Palmer wasn't the only voice that made masses around the world go crazy over THE ROMPING SHOP phenomenon. The sweet, yet, cleverly slack (raunchy) female MC appropriately named SPICE, stood her own, and to most, better than her male co-star, Dj Palmer just as fellow Caribbean Queen, Nicki Minaj did with J and Kanye in "MONSTER". As she ended her interview before she came over to THE C.A.B station (aka. DANES' DESK) the fun-sized, brown skinned beauty, sporting her blue hair simply asked before we got started “Can I just put on a likkle more lip gloss before we start?" A girl after my own heart! I smiled and said "sure" as I began to set up the audio for our exclusive Q and A. We are, on some level, familiar and LOVING the spice, but now its time for the CHARISMATIC and, ever-so sufficient GRACE STARLISA: YOU KNOW YOU COOK FOOD, WHAT ACTUALLY MAKES THE FOOD SO GOOD? Spice: It’s the “Spice” STARLISA: EXACTLY! Spice: Without de spice it nah go niiiiiiicceeeee, haha! STARLISA: WHICH SPCE WOULD YOU BE IN THE DANCEHALL SCENE AND WHY? Spice: I am the SALT, in Dancehall because without SALT in your food, it has no flavor and I am also a likkle peppah, to make it spicy. I, also provide that in DANCEHALL because I am always coming with something different. Whether it's my performance, my entry on stage, from my lyrics to my blue hair and shoes that I wear, I am pepper. STARLISA: YOU DEFINITELY ARE! NOW, THE MECCA OF TRINIDADIAN EVENTS IS CARNIVAL. TO ME, THE JAMAICAN EQUIVILENT [TO ME] WOULD BE ‘STING’! Spice: Right! STARLISA: FOR THOSE OF US WHO HAVE NEVER BEEN, TAKE US THROUGH THE STING EXPERIENCE Spice: OK, so you have never been to a STING, it's a big music festival, nuff people, ah come I hear the music, but also see a good (she pauses) ah GREAT SHOW! But, it is a tough crowd (she lowers her sunshades so she can see me clearly in my eyes) the people dem, the audience WILL "Boo!" you. They will take their bottle and "lick it" [throw it] at you, laugh at you, rate you; it's a rough crowd. People dem are a NO NONSENSE crowd, even a veteran like BEENIE MAN will tell you; I get BOO-ed at STING, BOUNTY KILLER will tell you; I get BOO-ed at STING... DOESN'T MATTER WHO YOU ARE, That's STING. However, over the years I have managed to govern that crowd. They call me "MUMMA" [MOTHER] of STING because every year I go I just bring it, not only fuh mi looks (that earned me another lower of her glasses to show me a clever wink), but, for my lyrics, which are always quite whitty. STARLISA: INDEED. AND NO MATTER HOW SEXY OR RAUNCHY THE CONTENT, YOUR DELIEVERY IS IMPECABLE AND YOUR WORK ETHIC AS A DANCEHALL PRINCESS IS INCOMPORABLE, AND JUST SO DAMN SMOOTH! Spice: "That's what they love about the brand SPICE". (She proclaims with humble confidence.) "Always bringing something different. Yuh just cyan DARE me, she confesses as she belts out a wicked laugh, I WILL DO IT ... and that's just ME! STARLISA: SO, DOES THAT COME FROM WHERE/OR/HOW YOU WERE BROUGHT UP IN PORTMORE, JAMAICA W.I? HOW HAS IT CONTRIBUTED TO MOLDING THE ‘NO-NONSENCE’ DANCEHALL DIVA THAT WE SEE TODAY? Spice: Well, I was born and half my life raised there and then I left Jamaica and lived in England for a while to live with my grandparents. Funny enough, I was actually brought'll up by doing di likkle "Christian ting" singing In the choir and all of that, (as she takes a second to reminisce about the events of her Christian upbringing as she proceeds with caution with her words) the word I am looking for, "BRUCK OUT" me nah no whey meh BRUCK OUT from (LOL) you know when dem say she "BRUCK OUT" because I was a likkle Christian gyal In church. So I think the whole dancehall arena is what made me come. STARLISA: NOW, UNLESS, ESPECAILLY IN EARLIER TIMES, NO CAIRBBEAN MUSIC THAT DIDN’T FEATURE A MAJOR AMERICAN ACT WAS HARDLY EVER PLAYED ON MAJOR WORLD WIDE SCALE. BUT, THEN, THERE WAS “THE ROMPING SHOP” THAT INVADED HOT 97, POWER 105.1 AND EVEN 103.5 KTU’S AND Z100 WITHOUT APOLOOGY IN 2008/2009. E-V-E-R-Y-B-O-D-Y [ESPCIALLY MYSELF], WERE JUST IN AWE OF THE SONG LYRICAL CONTENT, RIDDIM [SAME USED IN NEYO’S MISS INDEPENDENT] AND CHEMISTRY BETWEEN YOU AND THE SELF-PROCLAIMED ‘WORLD BOSS’ VYBZ KARTEL, TAKE ME BACK TO THAT TIME, HOW DID YOU FEEL? Spice: I felt great! It's still hard for me to describe exactly into words. My phone was ringing from places I have never even heard of, wanting to talk, fly me out for shows and interviews. My sister would say ‘someone wants to talk to you from [fill in the blank] and I would be like ‘WHERE?!!’ The song Romping Shop went to all corners of the world, and it felt amazing travelling with them (Grace, takes a moment to reminisce and draws a deep but satisfying breathe) … it was overwhelming (she laughs) STAR, I CANNOT USE JUST ONE WORD TO DESCRIBE IT! It was just AMAZING, I couldn’t even understand the pandemonium. STARLISA: VYBZ, IS A LYRICAL MASTER. MANY PEOPLE FROM FAN TO INDUSTRY COMENTATORS SAY THAT YOU ARE HIS FEMALE COUNTERPART AS IT COMES TO HOW YOU BRAND “SPICE”, YOUR LYRICAL CONTENT AND YOUR WORK ETHIC. HOW DOES THE COMPARISON MAKES YOU FEEL? Spice: It’s a HUGE compliment and I take it gracefully, its an honor to even hear that. He (Kartel), is one of THE BEST artists to come out of Jamaica. STARLISA: So, you know I HAVE to go “THERE”, being with all of the allegations to clearly someone who not only you, but everyone regards as such a megastar, against Vybz Kartel and his trial. Can you share with us a little bit of not “VYBZ KARTEL”, but Adidja Azim Palmer? Spice: Working with him was absolutely amazing! He is TOTALLY different from the ‘person’ that the public is trying to paint. He is so sweet, always giving me trouble, always ah give joke, you know that pure, kind of JOVIAL person? THAT’S who DJ PALMER is. I know NOTHING and no one else! This other ‘person’ that the media around the world is talking about, I have never met ‘HIM’. STARLISA: THAT IS SUCH A REFRESHING POINT OF VIEW AND ONE UNFORTUNEATLY, AS YOU HAVE SAID. WE DON’T HEAR ENOUGH OF! Spice: ”INDEED! (With a sparkle of an English accent coming out, she replies) STARLISA: OK DEN, BACK TO THE SPICE! WHAT CAN BE ANXIOSLY BE AWAITING FROM YOU IN THE NEXT 2 YEARS? Spice: MORE HOT MUSIC! STARLISA: AND……….? Spice: HAHA! And, I want to visit my fans and spend time getting to know them, getting them to know me as my own entity. I want to go to AFRICA most definitely. I will continue to be one of the leading females in DANCEHALL because I am going to lock myself inna di studio and write and sing and produce until I cannot anymore! I took a break for a while because the BUSINESS and INDUSTRY got very frustrating and, you know, sometimes its like meh cyan [can’t] bother ESPECAILLY AS A WOMAN. But, definitely more HOT music like ‘SO MEH LIKE IT’! I love that song! STARLISA: AND SO DO WE! IT WAS AN AMAZING COME BACK. NOW YOU MENTIONED THAT THE BUSINESS GETS FRUSTATING, WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR WOMEN COMING INTO THE INDUSTRY? Spice: Number One would be, GIVE RESPECT TO GET RESPECT! But, more importantly, when I come to work and record, I am not in any JOKING thing with anybody. I make it known that I am here to record, and make good music and then meh go inna meh yard! When you smile up and “giggy giggy” men can read you easily! You act easy, you treated as easy. Bottom line. ....................................................................................................................................... As we wrapped up with her doing a few drops for THE C.A.B [718cab.com] CARIBBEAN AMERICAN BUZZ and setting up plans to have drinks at my good friend, international SELECTA and official tour DJ for GYPTIAN, DJ SPIN CITI at his weekly WASTED WEDNESDAYS at SQUADZ in Brooklyn, New York, I realized that SPICE CYAN DONE, her beauty, sex appeal, intelligence, relentless work ethic and charm – not to mention SHE LIMIN’ STYLE! It was then time to pop in my RAGGA RAGGA compilation album, and pre-game before the night’s events. I was Brooklyn bound after a productive day of work. Work and play are an IMPORTANT balance to have!, Mi gent [peeps]. AH SO MEI LIKE IT! By: Sharlisa Peterson

- Guilt-Free Caribbean Chocolate Truffles
If channelling your innerJamie Oliver appeals and you’d like to surprise your guests with a meal that is as delicious as it is true to Caribbean tradition, why not start with some of the dazzling recipes on Caribbean Magazine? Start the experience out with a peppery fish chowder or hearty crab soup, whet your guests’ appetite further with a spicy chicken jerky and end the meal on a sweet note, surprising your guests with rich chocolate truffles, made with authentic Caribbean cocoa. Choco-Tourism in the Caribbean According to The New York Times, the Caribbean is currently a hot-spot for those seeking to hop from island to island to enjoy the very best of the Caribbean cocoa industry: “From Tobago to Dominica, Grenada to St. Vincent, the Caribbean cocoa industry, which has roots in colonial times, is being revitalized. This is excellent news economically: With free trade having all but destroyed the islands’ banana and sugar industries, fair-trade farming initiatives are a welcome boon.” The world price of cocoa has been soaring in the past few years, owing in no small part to the growing size of the middle class in emerging markets. Seekingalpha.com notes that “The emerging middle class has made chocolate into an affordable, everyday treat. Meanwhile, new products, improved transportation and better infrastructure have eased the distribution of confections.” Within the booming chocolate market, Caribbean cocoa is very much the gold standard, and there is no doubt that this dark, delicious ingredient is attracting fervent foodies from far and wide. Dark Cocoa: Chock-full of Healthy Goodness Dark (preferably raw) Caribbean chocolate is one of the healthiest foods you could possibly treat yourself with. This product is highly nutritious, boasting three times the amount of antioxidants contained in green tea. Builtlean.com notes that raw chocolate “contains many important vitamins and minerals including Magnesium and other essential minerals, including calcium, sulphur, zinc, iron, copper, potassium and manganese; polyphenols called flavonoids with antioxidant properties, Vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B9, E; protein; and fibre.” The ‘food of the Gods’ is an ideal choice for everyone, particularly those who need a nutritional boost. Raw chocolate and other nutritional foods make up an important part of the diet of those undergoing rehabilitation for substance abuse, for instance. Addiction takes a major toll on the body, preventing users from absorbing important nutrients, and damaging both their immune systems and vital organs. This is largely because of the large amounts of toxins even common ‘soft drugs’ contain. Not only do drugs affect one’s physical state, they also affect our mental wellbeing. Rehabs.com states that “Marijuana use is strongly associated with stunted emotional development” To boost the health of our body and mind, it is vital to consume a diet which is very high in antioxidants. Raw chocolate can play a vital role in fighting free radicals and detoxifying the body. If you’d like to include a little of its magic in your daily life, try the following recipe for raw chocolate truffles… Raw Chocolate Truffles Ingredients: 1 cup Medjool dates ¼ cup hemp seeds 3/4 cup walnuts ¼ teaspoon sea salt 5 tablespoons raw Caribbean cacao/cocoa powder ¼ cup cocoa powder or icing sugar to roll the truffles in Instructions: Process the walnuts in a food processor. Cut the dates into quarters and place in a bowl. Add the processed walnuts and hemp seeds and mash until a uniform mixture is formed. Roll into balls and roll again in the extra cocoa powder, or roll lightly in icing sugar. Note: The truffles are a five-minute recipe, but if you wish to add a little sophistication to the recipe and up its health benefits, you may wish to roll the truffles in superfoods like Goji berries, desiccated or shredded coconut or finely chopped nuts. Those into essential oils love adding a tiny drop of edible essential oils like bergamot, mandarin or orange, to add a touch of chocolate orange magic to the recipe. If you are new to essential oils and wish to harness their benefits, make sure to use only therapeutic grade essential oils and use them sparingly. Just one drop of lemon essential oil in a full glass of water, for instance, has a very strong taste, so err on the cautious side when adding these oils to truffles for the first time, testing a half a drop of essential oil on a small batch of truffles before adding them to the entire mixture. - Interview with Dominican Gospel Singer Canta Krystal
“The whole purpose is not to mix in, or blend in, the whole idea is to revolutionize and expand.” Canta Krystal Wauw...... Profound! Being of Dutch and Spanish Caribbean decent, one of my biggest challenges was to be able to “FIT IN”. The Caribbean Entertainment industry is ruled by an IRON FIST by the one island that comes to peoples from around the world as it pertains to matters of Caribbean ANYTHING – Jam-a-ica, Jamaica. Secondly, would definitely be the self-proclaimed land of ‘OIL AND MUSIC’, however, world and Caribbean proclaimed home base of the BEST Caribbean Carnival (HANDS DOWN), Trinidad & Tobago. Ayati, [HAITI] in popular opinion would most likely come in THIRD place, giving us the widely popular and the smooth sounds of KOMPAmusic and to round out what I believe to be the TOP TEN most popular islands, T&T’s fellow SOCA and CALYPSO islands, Barbados, Grenada, St. Lucia and proprietors of oh, so sweet and melodic sounds of ZOUK and French sister islands to [Haiti], Dominica and of course, our U.S.V.I’s UNITED STATES VIRGIN ISLANDS. It’s very seldom that the Spanish islands of PUERTO RICO, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC AND CUBA get recognized (or) included as part of the Caribbean. It is an even more rare that the DUTCH “ABC” & “SSS” islands (which are ARUBA, BONAIRE, CURACAO/SABA, STATIA AND ST.MAARTEN) would be in a category of being “WEST INDIAN”. I would feel so aloof and get ‘lost in the sauce’ –ESPECAILLY, when I was working event production w/ 93.5 FM IRIE JAM RADIO I fast pace conversations spoken in Jamaican patois [having to do one of those faint giggles (DON’T FRONT! You know you have done it before! When EVERYONE else in the room is laughing at something that COMPLETELY went over your head!). The feeling to ‘belong’, however, is indeed a disguise for us to be comfortable, complacent and feeds our fear of the UNKNOWN and paralyzes our ‘Leaps of Faith’. Unfortunately, those are only distractions of the unfathomable greatness that we are able to achieve, if we would just act on it, and believe. Valuable, innovative and revolutionary in her own right; Canta Krystal, Dominican gospel- child prodigy turned multi- faceted "secular" artist, Canta Krystal, responsible for the introductory quote, but, also putting "sabor nuevo" in the mainstream music industry, REPPIN for us LATINA CAREER revolutionaries everywhere. Raised by busy, but supportive, single mother, who noted her daughter's talent from the young age of 9 (along with constant reminding and at times boastful bragging from HER NEÑA tambìen) who insisted that she needs to be doing EXACTLY what her role models J.LO and BEYONCE were doing! Out of the mouths of babes, indeed! Mama Canta" immediately got young KRYSTAL involved with their church's youth ministering activities such as, the choir. Here, she effortlessly sang soprano, due to her mimicking MARIAH CAREY songs, note- for-note. Her outstanding performance landed her an invitation to participate in her industry debut on Janice Kapp Perrys’ “Me Encanta Ver El Templo” (I love to see the Temple) in the midst of singing, she also performed with major TELEMUNO live televised events through another art she hold dear to her heart and does well, dance, for the biggest Latin music artist such as Fulanito and “SUAVEMENTE” singer, Elvis Crespo, just to name a few. That only ignited and fed Krystal’s hunger to make it BIG. She was on the hunt for producers to work with. Some, due to her undeniable exotic ‘drag you in’ look, and evolving talent to match, topped with her JEFE [BOSS] self-managed demeanour, where as she puts it a waste of time. However, it’s a catch twenty-two because of those very same reasons, she landed work with the BEST OF THE BEST, as it goes for producers in the LATIN INDUSTRY such as NITIDO EN EL NINTENDO and A & X, signed artist, co-singer of/with DON OMAR and producer of famed hit ‘DANZA KUDURO’ – Theme song to FAST AND THE FURIOUS, that still to this day has EVERYONE, of all races, going LOCA in the club. Outside of singing and the Latin market, Canta Krystal has proved that she is on a train to NON-STOP ultimate success. She graced her model-esque presence in a recent cameo in NEW YORK RAPPERS Lloyd Banks and Troy Ave ‘YOUR STYLE’ as she described her experience as ‘GREAT!’ she makes it very clear that THE MUSIC, will always come first! And she makes it CRYSTAL CLEAR with her hit ‘YO SE’. STARLISA: “WHY ‘YO SE’?” CK: Why Yo Se, Because "I KNOW" That is the meaning of "YO SE" I guess that goes back in relating to men because a lot of these songs now and days are all about what men have. The big house, nice car, flashy chains ext. As women, don't we all know this already? In the song I’m letting the man shine because as his right hand, I want him to, so I'm saying I know Papi! I get more into detail on the second verse when I explain how I have it too. So it’s kind of like ’yeah… whatever’. Don’t think you’re the only one Now, TU SABES, Krystal is a TRUE New Yorker and you can #jumpinthecab and catch this CHICA hanging out at trendy WASHINGTON HEIGHTS lounge ‘MIA’ filled with great food, amazing hookah and an unique drink menu or the CLASSIC and LEGENDARY CASA DE MOFONGO. When I asked this Latina SPIT-FIRE about her love life, she candidly replied “Love life? What’s that? With work alone, I feel like there is never time. Then you involve Family and maybe one close friend and there’s no time ever if you are really dedicated. But on a more real, not like if I actually try I find myself always dating someone involved with the music. It tends to be the only thing I let myself be around anyway time wise. And, then it doesn't work out because of all the extra things that get involved in a MAN’S world with music. Groupies, Money, Power… men don't like a woman to be "MORE POWERFUL" than them in the music, Or anything for that fact. I guess egos kick in, pero, honestly, I could care less. What a DIVA, Well said. I love talking to Krystal even further as we get into more questions about our related Spanish Caribbean culture of DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, so let’s get back to the food to the two things that MAKE the DR; THE FOOD AND THE WOMEN! STARLISA: “WHAT IS ONE THING THAT DOMINICAN WOMEN CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT?” CK: The one thing a Dominican Woman cannot live without is her plate called "los 3 Golpe" which contains Platano, Queso, Y Salami. (Plantains, Fried cheese, and Salami) STARLISA: “EVERY DOMINICAN WOMAN WANT TO FEEL ____________” CK: I think every Dominican Women just likes to always look sexy and have fun. What man doesn't want to be with a woman who strives to look sexy every day and smile? Just enjoy life. STARLISA: “WHO IS CANTA KRYSTAL?” CK: The CANTA KRYSTAL BRAND is very simple. Canta means sing in Spanish. Everywhere I go People ask me to sing. Canta Krystal. My name is Krystal, but now you know which one you’re talking about. The one that sings. You better saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannggg, Krystal! By: SharLisa Peterson ........................................................................................................................... The high-end fashion line, Femheka by Raxann Chin, founded May 11, 2012, graced the red carpets at both the 86th Academy Awards and Festival de Cannes in 2014, among other prestigious events. “It is truly validating and quite an honor to be recognized by an organization such as Karib Nation, especially after just making our two-year mark,” said Chin. “There is no greater feeling than being rewarded for the manifestations of a dream that I was determined to see through. I yielded. I trusted. I have found my home through fashion.” Karib Nation, Inc. was founded in 1992 in Baltimore, and as a non-profit organization, it promotes Caribbean-owned businesses. United States President Barack H. Obama declared June as Caribbean American Heritage Month. “Caribbean Americans are part of a great national tradition, descendants of hopeful, striving people who journeyed to our lands in search of a better life. They were drawn by a belief in the power of opportunity, a belief that through hard work and sacrifice, they could provide their children with chances they had never known. Thanks to these opportunities and their talent and perseverance, Caribbean Americans have contributed to every aspect of our society -- from science and medicine to business and the arts. During National Caribbean-American Heritage Month, we honor their history, culture, and essential role in the American narrative,” said Barack Obama, during his presidential proclamation of National Caribbean-American Heritage Month. Chin, who migrated to the United States with her family in 1995, joins the past awardees, which include Francis Hendy, Uzuri International, Lois Samuels, Patricia Coates, Michael Chataigne, Bill Edwards, Roger Gary to name a few. The awarded fashion designers took part in a week of activities that included networking and a wider platform for the promotion of their brands. The week of events hosted the Bahamas Consulate General Reception on Wednesday, June 25th, the Congressional Black Caucus on Capitol Hill & White House visit on Thursday, June 26th, a Fashion Show and the Karib Nation Inc. Awards Presentation on Friday June 27th, ending with Couture in the Park on Sunday June 29th. Part of the proceeds of the Fashion Showcase will benefit the Caribbean’s Children’s Foundation. ................................................................................................................................... - BEAU Designs Pairs with Changing Faces in Spectacular Summer Shoot
Fashion company BEAU Designs has partnered with successful emerging MUA (Make-UpAriste) Nikisha Benjamin-Richardson in a sizzling summer fashion shoot last weekend. Held at the majestic Trinidad and Tobago Hyatt Regency, the shoot was an extremely successful marriage of two intrinsic and highly artistic aspects of the fashion industry, where meticulous and intricate flawlessly applied make-up complimented the bold and daring designs of BEAU. From the stylish ‘Kissed by a Rose’, a sensuous cascade of wine stained lace and flowing, crimson satin to the classically elegant ‘Secret Purple’ with smokeybrushed eyes as well as seductively parted lips glossed in full ruby, the pieces were shot around the opulent settings of the hotel by renowned fashion photographer Luis Young, who captured the many moods and beauty of both the faces and figures of the models. Sai-ann, who was contacted by Ms. Benjamin-Richardson to provide the wardrobe of the shoot, decided to feature both designs as they best represent the hidden beauty most women possess. Ms. Benjamin-Richardson was also greatly impressed by the use ofcolour in the designs, stating that they suited her own approach towards make-up. The self taught MUA strongly believes that the face should be expressed equally as the body, as this is what a woman offers to the world: an image of confidence, exquisite beauty and playful radiance. Both women were equally impressed by the designs and skills of the other and have promised to work closely and frequently with each other on future endeavors. BEAU Designs is currently preparing to release its sophomore collection geared towards the professional working woman.‘Sphinx’ comprises of twelve sophisticated, elegantly casual pieces which can be worn as stand alone items or subsequently mixed and matched for added creativity. Aptly named for the creature of Greek and Egyptian mythology and its penchant for testing travelers with riddles, the creature’s most famous answer has been creatively flipped into the line. Scheduled for a tentative release later in the year, Sphinx is Sai-ann’s second presentation at Caribe Fashions ‘Trini Styles’, which gives local designers a forum to showcase their skill in fashion design, dressmaking and accessorizing. She impressed both judges and critiques alike with her first fashion offering, ‘BEAU’, which she has subsequently expanded and now bears the name of her company.
